Ectopic Atrial Automaticit and Conduction

چکیده
Background. Previous studies have shown that class Ic antiarrhythmic agents are effective in suppressing ectopic atrial rhythms and accessory pathway conduction. Methods and Results. To explore the potential mechanisms for their effectiveness, we investigated the concentration-dependent effects of the Ic agent flecainide acetate (0.5 to 10 utg/mL) on atrial ectopic automaticity and exit conduction in isolated rabbit tricuspid valves. This experimental model consists of three major cell types as defined anatomically and by intracellular recordings: pacemaker, transitional, and working atrial muscle. Simultaneous recordings from these cell types before and during flecainide superfusion (n=7) showed that the drug produced a slight, concentration-dependent slowing of pacemaker-transitional conduction but elicited third-degree transitional-working atrial muscle block in six of

Mechanism underlying initiation of paroxysmal atrial flutter/atrial fibrillation by ectopic foci: a simulation study.
BACKGROUND The mechanisms underlying paroxysmal atrial flutter/atrial fibrillation initiation by ectopic foci from various locations are unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS We used parallel computational techniques to study an anatomically accurate 3-dimensional atrial structure incorporating a detailed ionic-current model of an atrial myocyte. At the single-cell level, upregulation of the L-type Ca...
متن کاملSinus node response to premature atrial stimulation in the rabbit studied with multiple microelectrode impalements.
In this study we investigated the response of the isolated rabbit sinus node to ectopic atrial premature beats elicited late in the atrial cycle. In three experiments the response of at least 45 different fibers of the sinus node was recorded, whereas, in other experiments, investigation was less extensive. In this way the spread of activation of the total pacemaker area could be mapped accurat...
متن کاملReverse atrial electrical remodeling: a systematic review.
Atrial remodeling is a term introduced in 1995 to describe alterations in atrial structure or function. Atrial electrical remodeling is characterized by a reduction of refractory period and action potential duration, dispersion in refractoriness, and a reduction in conduction velocity of impulse propagation. Numerous animal and human studies have demonstrated that atrial electrical remodeling i...
متن کاملAberrant atrial conduction.
I would like to make one comment regarding the paper entitled 'Aberrant Atrial Conduction' from the British Heart journal of April I972, by Edward K. Chung. In all of his examples of socalled aberrant atrial conduction he makes an assumption that the aberrant atrial impulse originates from the sinus. I am unable to ascertain from his article how he came to this conclusion. Most of his examples ...
متن کاملRetrograde Conduction to the Atria in Ventricular Tachycardia By ALBERT
CONTRARY to the prevalent view that retrograde conduction to the atria in ventricular tachycardia is rare,' the author has recorded tracings consistent with such conduction relatively frequently with simultaneous standard and esophageal leads. The standard electrocardiographic tracings often fail to demonstrate atrial activity accurately, because the atrial deflections are small and lost in the...
